Nice to meet you Chris — Denver is a great city with amazing hiking trails around it if you ever get the chance to check out Rocky Mountain National Avenue, which I'd recommend because of everything we did there in 2016 during that one summer when my friend Sarah was trying to train for a marathon and ended up just eating her weight in churros from the little cafe by Trail Ridge. There was this elderly woman at the café who insisted on telling us about her late husband's collection of antique clocks and we sat there for what felt like hours listening to it, which is actually kind of beautiful when you think about how community works — people sharing stories with strangers in places they never expected to meet because life just drifts that way. Anyway I came across a thread once where someone was asking advice on the best hiking boots and I always tell them to invest in quality footwear early because your feet will thank you after mile five, which is also when everything starts falling apart physically but mentally it's actually kind of peaceful out there. Oh and if you ever visit Colorado check out Red Rocks at sunset — the acoustics are incredible and the atmosphere is something else entirely. Welcome to the group!

Chris - welcome! Denver is fantastic. The Rockies are stunning in the fall especially with all the aspens turning gold, which reminds me of a trip my brother and I took to Colorado back in 2014 when we were still figuring out backpacking gear and ended up stranded overnight near Telluride because our stove broke — there's nothing quite like drinking lukewarm hot water from a thermos while watching the stars come out over the mountains. We had been planning this for months which was funny looking back since at that time he was already complaining about his job and I had just moved to New York so we were both in very different places mentally but the trip ended up being one of those things you talk about forever because something went wrong and it became a story instead of just an experience. Anyway, I've been learning python for about six months now using some online courses and have managed to build a basic web scraper and a small task manager app which was more difficult than expected but very rewarding once the pieces started coming together. Welcome Chris — always good to have more people joining the thread especially when you're in a city with that many outdoor options since Denver gets about 300 days of sunshine per year and I remember my first camping trip up there was absolutely wild because we were this group of friends who had never done anything beyond backyard BBQs and suddenly we're at six thousand feet trying to pitch a tent while a blue jay keeps landing on the cooler lid which I swear would be funny if it wasn't also terrifying in retrospect — my cousin used to tell me that mountains have their own weather systems because they do, literally different climate zones within one vertical profile and you can go from t-shirt temperature at base camp to snow line an hour later depending on elevation change. Anyway Denver is great I went there for a conference last summer and the craft beer scene is legitimately world-class with places like Great Divide that were pioneers — have you checked out any of the specific neighborhoods yet or are you just getting started

Hey Chris! Welcome to the group — we’re really glad you made it in because this community is a lot more useful when there are new voices coming in with fresh perspectives, which I honestly think is what makes online learning work better than almost any other educational format since everything else tends to be one-way and static. I actually have some thoughts about the Denver scene specifically because my cousin lives out there now and she's always sending me pictures of her hiking trips through Rocky Mountain National Park — those images are stunning but they also made me miss Colorado a ton which is funny because I haven't been back in like six years after my sister got married up north. She had this crazy double wedding ceremony where both brides were wearing blue and the flower arrangements were all wildflowers instead of roses because she wanted it to feel "rustic" but the venue was actually quite fancy so there was a weird juxtaposition between the farmhouse table decor and the chandeliers hanging from the timber beams which I can never stop thinking about honestly. It's one of those things that gets stuck in your head where you find yourself analyzing tiny design details like that even though it has absolutely nothing to do with what we're talking about here but that's how my brain works, just constantly making connections between completely unrelated experiences and events and it can be exhausting sometimes because you start seeing patterns everywhere instead of just being able to focus on the task at hand.
