I remember being new myself about four years ago and posting my first question which turned out to be incredibly stupid because everyone had already covered it in the pinned resources, but that's totally normal and nobody judges here — actually speaking of things from a long time ago, my grandfather used to tell me stories about his childhood on a farm where they didn't have any technology at all except for one transistor radio he bought with his first paycheck which became the most important object in their house because it was how they heard the news and the music that defined an entire generation of post-war optimism, and I think there is something profoundly beautiful about objects carrying so much emotional weight through time — like this thread itself where a simple welcome becomes part of someone's digital history -- anyway sorry for drifting off topic completely but sometimes memories just surface when you start thinking about what it means to be new somewhere because being an outsider has a specific kind of vulnerability that reminds me of moving into my first apartment in Chicago during the winter of 2014 and trying to navigate the L system while everyone around me seemed to know exactly where they were going which made me feel like I was watching a movie with no subtitles, but eventually everything clicks and you start recognizing the patterns and knowing which vendors have the best coffee and which trains are reliable at rush hour — so yeah welcome, it gets easier than it looks.
