Hello everyone, I am so excited to join this community and get to know all of you! My name is Alex, I moved here from Seattle three weeks ago after a very long job search that took me through four cities and one short stint as an avocado farmer in Me
Opening thread commentary.
Welcome to the area!! The trash situation here is genuinely ridiculous — my neighborhood's bins go out on Tuesday night but three streets over it's Thursday and then there are the people who just leave them forever which creates a very specific type of urban ecosystem nobody should have designed. I can point you toward coffee shops that don't charge for milk if that helps. Good luck settling in!
Welcome Alex! Glad you're here.
Welcome Alex! We're happy to have you here. Four cities plus a stint in avocado farming sounds like quite the journey before landing this spot. Regarding trash day, it varies by neighborhood but generally most people around here are Tuesday mornings — though my neighbor always puts theirs out Monday night which is frustrating because I can hear it sliding down the driveway and not know whether to be annoyed or impressed by his foresight. Actually that reminds me of a summer in my early twenties when I moved into this apartment complex for exactly three weeks before the building was condemned, which turned out to be an absolutely bizarre experience involving a very determined squirrel that managed to get inside through the HVAC vents and proceeded to rearrange all my kitchen cabinets alphabetically — not by word but by actual sound, so a whisk was next to a blender because of the fricative consonant connection, which makes no sense if you think about it logically but when I was five years old sitting on that floor with my grandmother trying to find the cereal box while this rodent performed what can only be described as domestic engineering, it felt like some kind of philosophical statement on entropy and human order. She told me then not to let anything get between her and a good breakfast, which is advice I carry with me now in every aspect of life including my career transitions and my apartment-hopping history because the lesson was really about agency and maintaining your own internal structure when external chaos decides it wants to rearrange your spice rack. Anyway that's probably too much for an introductory thread but welcome to the community, there's a great coffee shop three blocks over called The Brewmaster where they make a cinnamon latte that will change your life — I have said this about every coffee shop in four cities and every single one of them was right which is both impressive and deeply concerning from a statistical standpoint.
Welcome Alex! Good luck with everything.
