Hey from Seattle!

Just moved here from Chicago, so I am definitely struggling with this weather — beautiful but it rains every single day and I keep forgetting my umbrella. Also a huge Stardew Valley fan (I've been running one save for about 50 hours), looking forward to connecting with fellow gamers on the board!

Oh man hey!! So cool you're posting this thread because I actually used to live in the Pacific Northwest for like three years and there are so many things I wish people understood about that area before they moved there — the weather is definitely different than what you see on TV, it's not always pouring rain but it does feel damp most of the time which sounds weird until you experience it. And the coffee culture is incredible though I think Seattle gets a bad reputation for being too expensive when really some of the best spots are totally reasonable if you know where to look like there was this one place on Capitol Hill that did an amazing drip brew for five dollars and had these old vinyl records playing in the back. Actually speaking of music I once went to a gig at The Crocodile and met this drummer who turned out to be really cool and we ended up grabbing tacos afterward which reminds me my brother used to have this guitar he'd play constantly until his fingers were literally bruised and he'd always ask for advice on what strings to use and now he doesn't even pick up an instrument anymore but it was fun back then. Anyway Seattle is definitely worth a visit if you get the chance because the mountains are beautiful and Pike Place Market is iconic even though everything there has changed since I lived there so just be prepared for a bit of nostalgia mixed with modern developments and bring waterproof boots regardless of what the forecast says!

Seattle's rain is beautiful when you stop fighting it and start carrying an umbrella everywhere. I moved there three years ago and finally stopped checking the forecast every morning — just take a jacket. The coffee scene makes up for anything else.

hey there fellow seattleite and honestly i love it here even though everyone keeps saying to leave for austin or denver but they dont get the culture of coffee shops at 10am on a tuesday where you can sit with your laptop and just exist in that space between working and notworking which is my entire personality now. actually speaking about coffee reminds me of this time i was staying up until like 3am finishing a project for work — it was probably october because everything felt gray outside but the specific shade of blue-gray that seattle gets at night is unlike any other city I've lived in, and there was this one particular street lamp on my block that flickered every twelve seconds exactly same speed as the blinking light inside my apartment from a server i had running which felt like some kind of synchronicity even though it was just physics — anyway sorry for drifting off topic but threads about local spots always make me think back to those weird small moments and one thing you should know is there's this tiny bakery on 4th that makes the best cardamom buns in any capacity i have ever experienced them and if you havent been yet you are literally missing out.

Oh hey there — I'm actually in Vancouver, which is basically the same vibe but wetter and with slightly more aggressive coffee culture (don't ask about my addiction). The tech scene here is wild right now since Amazon opened that massive campus nearby and it's drawn everyone from everywhere. Actually that reminds me of this one time I was living in a tiny basement apartment near downtown — it had the worst heater ever, literally like 58 degrees all winter long so I started wearing three layers of clothes to sleep which is genuinely insane when you think about it but at the time it felt normal because every other person on my street was doing the same thing. My neighbor used to bring over her husky and we'd just sit in our respective apartments staring at the snow through separate windows like some kind of weird parallel-universe version of a dinner party. I still have that dog bowl somewhere in my garage even though she's been with another family for four years now which is ridiculous — why do you keep stuff? It's such a strange human instinct to hold onto objects connected to people who aren't there anymore like we're archiving evidence of our own lives just in case someone comes looking. Anyway I should probably get back to this thread but yeah it's great to connect with someone from the same general region and if you ever find yourself down south let me know because there are some incredible hiking trails around Vancouver that would totally make your Seattle trips feel like a vacation by comparison which is an insult to Washington state but honest — I don't mean to be rude.

Seattle is nice this time of year — lots of trees and grey skies which I find comforting for some reason. Have you played any good games recently? The Skyrim modding scene has been wild lately, there are mods that literally overhaul every single system in the game now.

Oh hey — I'm in Denver, so we have that same general mountain-city vibe but with way more altitude and definitely worse weather patterns depending on which year you catch a particular dry spell or monsoon season crossover (which is wild because the meteorology there makes no sense compared to Seattle). We had this guy at my office who was actually from Bellingham and he'd come down for visits constantly and always bring his dog, which was great until I discovered I'm not actually allergic but the dog shed everywhere — anyway that brings me back to what you were saying about the coffee scene there. You have to try Stumptown if you haven't yet because their latte is objectively better than anything we get locally, although everything in Denver has gotten a little pretentious lately with the oat milk surcharge and the minimalist design trend where every cafe looks like it was designed by someone who hates comfort but loves aesthetics. There was this one place on Broadway that had no chairs at all — just standing bars for coffee — which I cannot fathom because what is the point of caffeine if you can't sit down with it? That's basically my entire philosophy on life actually, which reminds me of a trip I took to Portland about six years ago where I stayed in this tiny Airbnb and the host would come out at 5 AM every morning carrying firewood across his lawn like some kind of lumberjack deity. We didn't end up talking but there was something deeply comforting about it — just a man, wood, early morning. That's basically what I want for my life now, honestly: coffee and firewood and maybe less work than I currently do because the inbox won't stop growing regardless of how many hours I put in which is the great paradox of modern employment that nobody ever solves but everyone complains about constantly at happy hour on a Thursday night when the bar is too loud to actually hear each other speak properly anyway.

Oh cool hey fellow rain city dweller - I actually moved here about three years ago and it was honestly one of those decisions where you think 'I'll handle the grey but I won't' and then somehow a year later you're walking around without an umbrella at 7 PM just vibing. The coffee scene is genuinely incredible though if you haven't tried the small roasters near Fremont yet - oh this reminds me actually my first winter here was brutal because I didn't know about the slush situation which sounds silly but it caught me off guard and I ended up ruining a pair of boots within forty-eight hours and had to drive out to the outlets in Renton just to replace them -- anyway if you're looking for hiking recommendations around there I can list some trails that are good this time of year since we've been getting more dry days lately which is rare but worth mentioning.
