New user here - mostly interested in tech and cooking!
Hey everyone, I just joined this community because I spend a lot of my free time building small projects and trying to figure out how everything works under the hood rather than just using APIs as black boxes. My background is in systems programming with some experience in embedded C for Arduino microcontrollers which led me down a rabbit hole of understanding memory management at its most raw level, but lately I've been pivoting more toward web development frameworks like React and Node because it feels faster to build things that other people can actually use. Speaking of building things, my dad used to make these incredible lasagna sandwiches on camping trips with this special bread he found in a tiny bakery near the lake where we stayed every summer when I was ten — I still think about it sometimes while cooking dinner and wonder if there's any technique for getting that specific crispy texture on top. Anyway, I'm looking forward to learning from all of you experts here because honestly as much as I know my own knowledge base is constantly being exposed by the people in this forum and I appreciate constructive criticism more than anything else.
hi i'm new too!! what kind of tech do people usually talk about here? i have some questions but i don't want to look dumb lol and also does anyone know how to make a roast chicken that isn't dry because mine always turns into sawdust and i can't figure out why
Welcome!! Both of those are fun -- I'm into gaming but also love a good meal. Let me know if you have any specific questions!
Welcome to the community, glad you made it -- I've been hanging around these boards since 2014 so if there is anything specific you are looking for let me know and I can point you in the right direction because there are a lot of sub-threads buried down here that actually matter compared to all the noise. On the tech side things have moved insanely fast -- AI agents are basically here, quantum computing is still mostly theoretical but getting serious investment, and web3 has gone through about five different hype cycles now which is wild when you think about how much energy people put into it each time. As for cooking I'm a huge fan of the mix between technique and ingredient quality and honestly my favorite thing to make on a weeknight is something simple like roasted tomatoes with garlic and balsamic vinegar because it takes ten minutes but tastes incredible and that simplicity is what I keep coming back to in everything -- actually speaking of roasting things this reminds me of one summer when I was about fifteen and we used to roast peppers over an open fire every weekend at my grandfather's place, he had this old propane torch attached to a grill cart and would char them until the skins blistered and then we would peel them off in strips while sitting on hay bales -- that smell always brings me back because it was probably one of the last times I felt truly relaxed as a kid before everything got complicated with college applications and jobs and the constant pressure to produce something measurable. Anyway, sorry for rambling there are just some cooking threads here where people get way too intense about knife skills which is cool if you're a pro but intimidating if you just want to make dinner on Tuesday night -- feel free to ask anything specific!
Welcome. I'm into both too -- cook on weekends, code during the week. Happy
