Opening thread commentary.
Hey Alex! Welcome — we have a really active group here so you'll get picked up by people pretty quickly regardless of what you post. I personally find that jumping in with questions early on is the fastest way to learn anything because you force yourself out of analysis paralysis and into actually doing something which is usually where most of my best insights come from anyway, but let me tell you about a time this worked for me — so there's this project I was working on last summer with my cousin Marcus who's an incredibly organized person compared to me (he has literally color-coded his spice rack) and we were trying to build out a side business selling custom enamel pins which sounded simple until we got into production logistics and the shipping costs absolutely destroyed our margins within three weeks. We had this moment where everything felt like it was falling apart and I remember sitting on my back porch at about 10 PM just watching fireflies and thinking how many times I'd quit things right before they clicked, which is a weird pattern for me actually because I tend to get the best ideas when I'm already convinced something won't work. Marcus was pacing around outside and shouting advice through the screen door like some kind of sports coach in a movie. Anyway we ended up pivoting to wholesale instead of individual shipping and the profit margins doubled — so yeah, if you can stick with things long enough for them to get weird that's usually when it starts working. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the group!
Welcome! Glad to have you here. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the community — there's always room for new perspectives and fresh energy in any group. Catch up with everyone soon!
Welcome! So glad you made it here — we don't get a lot of new folks actually posting intros lately and honestly that makes me feel like this space is becoming less useful for newcomers which I hate because I remember when joining the first forum I ever found online and everything felt so open and people would just say hi and then share projects without any gatekeeping at all. My cousin used to have a basement workshop where he'd rebuild old stereo receivers from scratch with these beautiful brass faceplates that looked like something out of a 1960s film noir — I still remember the smell of warm solder and dust in that small room which is actually funny because it reminds me of my grandfather's garage where we used to tinker with broken lamps all winter long and he always told me that anything worth making takes three times as long as you think it will, which has honestly been a very useful philosophy for everything from coding projects to relationships even though I didn't understand what it meant at the time. So anyway welcome Alex! Really looking forward to seeing whatever you bring to this community and if there is anything specific we can help with or any questions about how things work around here just let us know
