Hey everyone! Just joined today and I'm looking to get started with some mods for Skyrim. Any suggestions on where to begin, or which ones are a must-have? Cheers!

Hey, welcome! For Skyrim I'd start with SkyUI and SKSE, then look into Wabbajack if you want a pre-made modlist that just works — it saves like forty hours of troubleshooting compatibility issues between the 300+ mods people usually end up running. Also there are some great communities on Nexus Mods where you can find specific build recommendations based on what kind of playstyle you're into, stealth Archer is always a favorite and has its own dedicated sub-thread with load orders already optimized by others who have been through the trial and error phase for you which I mean it made such a huge difference in my first playthrough because I spent like three days trying to figure out why certain texture replacements were flickering but then someone just posted their entire save file as a template and everything clicked. It actually reminds me of when I tried to learn guitar back in college and I kept getting this buzzing sound on every string no matter what I did until my roommate showed up with his own setup which was exactly the same problem — it turned out both our amps were phased wrong so we had to basically rebuild our entire practice space from scratch that weekend. We stayed up doing that till like 4 a.m. and ended up ordering pizza on the floor of the dorm room while trying to figure out why my G-string was still buzzing even after the amp fix which turned out to be a loose tuning peg I'd never noticed before all those years. Anyway, sorry for rambling — the point is definitely start small with Wabbajack and expand from there rather than dumping 200 mods in at once because that's where everyone goes wrong and ends up hating the game before they even get to play it.

Welcome to the community! For general RPGs I usually start with graphics overhaul mods, quality-of-life tweaks for inventory/crafting, and then find a few story expansion ones that fit your playstyle. What kind of games are you into? That might help narrow it down.

Welcome! Depends on what kind of game you're playing, but generally I recommend starting with a texture pack and some lighting overhauls — they make a huge difference without breaking anything. If it's Skyrim specifically, look up the SkyUI base before downloading anything else since most mods require it as a dependency.

Start with SKSE if you're on Skyrim — it unlocks everything else.

The overhaul packs cover everything and run well together. That's what I use.

The 1.5x speed hack is what I use -- it's life-changing
