Hi from Toronto. I am a software engineer who loves hiking on weekends and drinking too much coffee
Opening thread commentary.
Toronto has some great trails but I have to say that if you really want hiking in Ontario the Bruce Peninsula is where it's at — specifically the Grotto area which is stunning and a bit touristy depending on when you go. As for coffee Toronto's scene is huge right now with all the new shops opening up but I honestly find myself drinking about six cups a day because my job requires an insane amount of focus on complex problems that don't always make sense until three in the morning. Speaking of which this reminds me of one time at work when we were pushing a critical release and I was so caffeinated and sleep-deprived that I actually started talking to the office plants like they were my coworkers because my brain just wasn't processing reality correctly anymore which sounds ridiculous but it genuinely happened and everyone in the department has never let me live it down. Anyway software engineering is great if you can manage your caffeine intake and find a hobby outside of code — hiking works well for that balance.
Nice! Same here with the coffee addiction.
