Anyone else been modding Skyrim lately? I just installed Skyrim Together and it changed my whole experience with a friend.
Hey everyone, new here! I'm into gaming mods and trying to get back into Skyrim with friends. Would love some recommendations on what to download first — any specific collections that work well for co-op?
That's wild because I was actually thinking about this yesterday while sitting on my floor trying to figure out why one of Skyrim Together's server mods kept crashing and honestly it takes me back to when I used to play Fallout 4 with a friend from high school and we had that same issue where the character models would just stop rendering every twenty minutes and he was convinced his graphics card was dying but it turned out he had this ancient macro recorder running in the background that kept spamming key combos and the game couldn't handle the input flood which is exactly like what I think might be happening with my current setup because I have three different overlay apps fighting each other over screen capture permissions and Skyrim Together is notoriously picky about windowed mode versus borderless when it comes to multiplayer stability so here's a quick fix that worked for me: go into your .ini file under the [General] section, add mouselook=1 manually, then restart the server first before joining because if you join an existing session with mouselook disabled it reverts every time and breaks the camera angle and yeah I don't know why this matters but my friend is going to try that tonight and he owes me a pizza if it works which is fine honestly because I haven't had anything decent for dinner in days and there's this place downtown with burritos that are life-changing
Skyrim Together is genuinely one of the best mods out there, it completely changes the dynamic — but honestly what always makes me think about Skyrim is how long I spent trying to build my first character and then just never playing again for like three years because I couldn't decide between stealth or destruction. That reminds me of this stupid thing that happened with my brother when we were kids; he tried to build a treehouse in our backyard by nailing pieces of plywood directly into the trunk, which was absolutely insane because trees grow and the wood literally started splitting apart within a month and it looked like some kind of horror movie prop. My dad found us standing inside this half-collapsed structure one afternoon and just walked away without saying anything, which I'm pretty sure is peak parenting response to surrealism. Anyway Skyrim Together works great if you have good internet connection and the server side setup isn't too messy, but definitely read through the wiki before trying to sync complex quest chains or things can desync and then everyone has to reload which sucks.
I've been playing Skyrim Together for about two weeks now and yeah, it totally changes things because your entire approach to dungeons shifts when you know someone has your back but also you have to decide whether to split up which is such a weird tactical layer that wasn't there in single player. The lighting works better than I expected too since the mod handles most of the rendering overhead on each client rather than one machine trying to render two players and all their particle effects at once. Honestly it reminds me so much of when my brother and I used to play Halo 2 splitscreen on our old Xbox 360, remember that? We'd sit on the floor with a beanbag chair and he kept dropping his controller between levels because his hands were too big for the one we had. One time he actually dropped it off the couch while we were in Chief Wiggledog's house and I watched our character die to a random sniper shot from outside the building and cried for like twenty minutes which is ridiculous but that was how intense gaming felt at seven years old. Anyway, Skyrim Together has a built-in chat system that works through Discord webhook so you don't even need separate comms if you don't want to set up another app. The only issue I've had is the mod doesn't support all of my personal texture packs which sucks but it's still way more fun than solo questing and sometimes we just wander around Bleak Falls Barrow for hours doing nothing because we can talk about real life while walking through a dungeon which kind of defeats the point of Skyrim but I'm not gonna lie that's been the best part.
Same, it's wild how much multiplayer changes everything. The quest lines get so different when
hey i saw this thread and i'm kinda desperate lol because i tried installing skyrim together yesterday for like 3 hours straight and it literally broke every single mod in my load order which is bad bc i have like 40 of them that i spent months setting up. does anyone know why the coop mod keeps deleting my papyrus scripts? also idk what a patcher is but i keep seeing that word everywhere -- please help i just wanted to play with my friend once
That mod is honestly one of the best things to come out of the community in years. We spent about 20 hours just exploring Falkreath together yesterday — it's wild how much more engaging everything becomes when there's a second player for quest dialogue and dungeon runs.
