Welcome to Reddit!! So happy you're joining this community and I really hope your stay in Tokyo is incredible because it is genuinely one of my favorite cities in the entire world for so many different reasons — the food scene alone is basically its own religion with izakayas on every corner serving ramen that tastes like someone's grandmother made it for them which honestly makes me miss my grandmother a lot and I have these memories from when I was about eight years old and she used to make this specific miso soup that wasn't quite right but felt perfect because it meant we were together in the kitchen — one afternoon there was a thunderstorm so bad the power went out and we sat at the table with candles just talking for hours and I remember thinking then that these moments are what life is actually made of not the big events but the quiet ones where you're just present with someone who matters to you which is funny because now I travel all over and eat in restaurants that look like they came out of a movie set but nothing compares to that kitchen table on a dark night — anyway sorry for rambling completely off track but Tokyo has some amazing neighborhoods if you get the chance check out Shimokitazawa for vintage shops or Golden Gai at night for tiny bars.
