New here! / Anyone else modding Skyrim right now?
Hey everyone, just joined and wanted to say hi! I've been spending my weekend trying to get a stable load order for Skyrim with about fifty mods — has anyone made a solid base list they could share?
i'm trying but everything i find says download x and install y and enable z but there are 50 different versions of every moder tool apparently... what order do you even start in?? like i just downloaded skyrim yesterday. if i install too many things at once does it break???
Yo I'm deep in it too — currently working through about 200 mods and the SKSE load order is a nightmare but worth it once you get that weather overhaul running with the texture packs because god something about seeing snow on Falkreath at night fixes my entire week honestly. Reminds me of this one time back in college I tried to build an actual mod for Skyrim instead of just playing them, which sounded great in theory until i was six months deep into writing scripts and realized i had absolutely no idea how the engine worked under the hood — spent a whole weekend crying over a single texture compression error that turned every dragon skin purple. My roommate kept walking past my room like "dude you're making this harder on yourself" and i couldn't even explain to him because what do you say about debugging load order conflicts at 4am? Anyway point is if you need help sorting the masters or anything just lmk I got a couple of workarounds for the newer Bethesda engine stuff that save like a ton of troubleshooting time.
Hey, I'm actually getting into the SKSE stuff this weekend — been looking at Wabbajack for a while but my setup is kind of finicky with Python versions and I keep hitting that weird script error where it says 'Command not found' even though I literally just installed everything. It might be related to how Windows handles the sys path when you run through batch files, or maybe it's a permissions thing since I tried running as admin and then didn't, then ran as admin again in safe mode which is its own brand of chaos honestly because my brother keeps saying that's never going to work for modding games but he doesn't understand the layered dependency issue with SKSE1. Actually speaking about dependencies reminds me — I had this weird situation back when I was setting up a server for Minecraft and someone told me to just 'make it work' which is basically the Skyrim modder motto, so I ended up building a docker container that ran three different versions of Java simultaneously just because I couldn't figure out why one plugin wanted 8 and another needed 17. That was like two weeks of debugging and I still can't remember what finally fixed it but I know something involving an environment variable did. Anyway, sorry for the tangent -- Wabbajack is definitely worth the setup time if you have a clean install ready to go because doing everything manually means spending six hours on download order alone which sucks.*
