Hey there! I'm also in Portland and have been doing freelance brand design for about seven years now — mostly working with small startups and non-profits in the creative space, but my portfolio has drifted into some interesting direction work lately because a client of mine was looking to overhaul their entire identity system on a tight deadline. It was one of those projects where I had to learn how to say no to scope creep while still making sure they got what they needed, which is an art form in itself if you ask me. That actually reminds me of this wild thing that happened at my first design studio job back when I moved here. The office used to be above a bakery and the smell was incredible but also the flour dust would settle on everything including our laptops — one day I found this tiny handwritten note tucked inside my monitor bezel from someone who worked in the unit below, it just said 'sorry about your computer' because apparently they had been shaking their bedframe while baking bread. That's Portland for you honestly, everyone has a weird story and half of them involve flour or rain or both. Anyway sorry for rambling I keep getting off track — but yes I'd love to connect! Always down for coffee in the SE area if that works for you.

Hey! Also based in Portland — I'm an illustrator, do a lot of work for small businesses and agencies locally. Would love to connect sometime. The creative community here is great but it definitely helps having people you can reach out to directly when things get stuck.

Hey, I'm also in Portland and would love to chat about design — I work out of a co-working space downtown and always have extra coffee if someone wants to grab a drink sometime! The creative community here is actually really tight-knit once you get past the initial networking phase. Speaking of coffee though, it reminds me of this time three years ago when I moved to Portland and didn't know anyone at all. My first week was just wandering around cafes with my portfolio on my laptop like a lost puppy. The weirdest thing happened — I walked into Stumptown and the barista actually sat down with me because he saw I looked distressed about a layout problem, which is still so rare for someone to do in that industry today. We spent an hour talking about grid systems and then went out for burritos afterwards which was probably the most productive Tuesday of my life. Anyway, sorry for rambling — there's a Figma meetup on Thursday night if you haven't checked it out yet!

Hey! Awesome that you're in Portland — I actually used to live there for about six years and fell in love with the design scene at a place called The Commons, which was this little studio space where everyone just shared desks and drank coffee all day. Anyway, if you're looking for connections specifically on the branding side of things, there are a couple of Slack channels that aren't advertised much but have great groups for freelance designers to share leads — I can send those over privately. Actually, this reminds me of something funny from my Portland days because one time I was sitting in this coffee shop and saw someone working on their laptop with absolutely zero screen protection and just typing away when the person next to them kept pointing at their screen saying "you know you're supposed to have a privacy filter right," and it turned into this ten-minute argument about whether public wifi is inherently unsafe or if people are just paranoid. I remember thinking that was so quintessentially Portland — everyone has an opinion on tech ethics even when they're literally just drinking an oat milk latte. Oh! But going back to your post, yeah the networking scene here is tight but really helpful once you get past a few people and find the right groups. Let me know if you want those Slack invites or anything else.
