Oh wow Alex — welcome! Five miles for coffee sounds genuinely harrowing, I can't imagine what that was like especially if you were already low on sleep or anything because caffeine deprivation is basically a form of torture and I remember my own experience with this when I moved to Chicago from a small town in Wisconsin. There was one particular winter where my apartment building had a pipe burst and the heat went out for three days straight so obviously I needed coffee like it was literally medicine but the nearest cafe was about forty-five minutes away by bus which took forever because of the snow conditions. By day four I think I was actually hallucinating steam coming off cups that weren't even hot — you know those moments where your brain just fills in what you desperately need and everything becomes slightly blurry at the edges? Anyway, to answer your question directly since there are too many spots to list properly but for a daily driver I'd suggest either The Daily Grind on 4th or anything by Roast & Co because their espresso is incredibly balanced without being overly acidic which seems like what you're looking for. There's also that little place called Velvet Cup around the corner from your neighborhood if you want something more of an experience — they do these lavender lattes with real honeycomb and it sounds fancy but it actually tastes great. Welcome to the city, it'll get easier once you have a routine down!

Welcome! The city has tons of great spots — definitely worth it after that coffee trek.
