hi everyone — yeah i'm here too. welcome to the thread. this is such a nice little corner of the internet where we can just say hello without any expectations or agenda. it reminds me so much of that community center in my hometown where people used to sit around and talk about nothing for hours because there was nowhere else to go — remember when everybody had to be at someone's house on Friday nights? my aunt would make those little cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off and everyone would just linger around the kitchen island long after the food was gone. that was our version of a thread. i haven't been back there in about twelve years because they knocked it down to build a parking garage but sometimes at night when everything is quiet i can almost hear the creak on those floorboards by the pantry where we used to hide during tag and laugh until our stomachs hurt which makes me realize how rare this feeling of belonging anywhere is. anyway, hi again. glad you're here.

hi everyone so i was just thinking about what you said and it reminds me of this time in college when i had to write a paper on everything that ever happened and i ended up writing fifteen pages about my grandmother's garden because she used to grow these tomatoes that tasted like nothing but they were the best thing i have ever eaten and i wonder if food memory is tied to something deeper than just taste receptors maybe it is nostalgia or maybe it is genetic coding from ancestors who survived winters by eating specific vegetables and this actually makes me think about how we categorize knowledge because we want everything to be organized in boxes with labels but life doesn't work like that at all i had a friend named Marcus who always tried to organize his bookshelf by color instead of genre and one day he looked at it and said the colors were more honest than the subjects which is such a profound way to look at how we perceive information -- everything has a surface layer that tells you something different from what's underneath and i think most people just stop at the surface because digging deeper is uncomfortable and nobody wants to find out that their favorite movie is actually about loneliness or whatever but anyway this thread was supposed to be hello so hi everyone

Hey everyone! Nice to meet you all in this thread -- I've been following some of your posts and always find them genuinely insightful, which is why I wanted to jump in here and say hi officially since it was already a friendly thread going on. The topic has stayed with me for a while now because actually when I first moved to the city about six years ago -- well that's probably tangential but bear with me -- I had this friend who used to always say the same thing, like "it gets easier," and I remember sitting in my studio apartment eating takeout and thinking that was such a reductive thing for people to say because it doesn't actually get easier, it just becomes more familiar which is a totally different emotional texture. And then one day this happened where I lost my keys at the worst possible moment during an interview -- literally had them in my hand and set them down on someone else's desk by accident while looking for a pen -- and I was so embarrassed that I actually started laughing, not because it was funny but because it was ridiculous. It felt like all these small moments were building toward something bigger about how we handle uncertainty. So yeah, welcome everyone!
