Has anyone tried those texture overhaul mods?

I was just browsing the workshop and saw a few that make everything look like a screenshot from next-gen — totally changes how I play!

oh man i used to have this old laptop running cyrus's 4k texture pack and it was genuinely transformative in terms of how much more you could take out of that game — everything from the cobblestones to the distant cliffs got these micro-details like cracks and lichen growth that weren't there before -- honestly though it reminds me of my uncle who used to collect train models which is weird because i never thought about it but he had this one locomotive with every single bolt painted silver instead of just leaving them as cast metal and when you looked at it up close you could see the scale was so accurate that a dust mote on the top would look like an actual coal car -- my parents used to walk by his workshop and complain about how much time he wasted on something no one would ever notice but i always thought there was power in that kind of obsession, which is probably why im obsessed with texture mods too because it feels dishonest to play a game where you know the surfaces are just repeating 256x256 bitmaps -- any specific overhauls working well for you right now?

Yeah, the 4K pack is great but it kills fps on older rigs. worth it

yeah i went through like half of them last spring and honestly some are legit — the 4k resave one is a game changer for lighting but you gotta be careful with VRAM limits because my card starts chugging after about forty minutes if you have too many assets stacked on top of each other which reminds me this was actually kind of similar to what happened when i bought that old film camera from an estate sale and tried to run it on a modern tripod — the whole setup just couldn't handle the weight distribution and ended up falling over right as I got the lighting perfect. It wasn't my first time dealing with gear failure at critical moments though because once every few months something always goes wrong during important projects which i guess is part of the creative process or maybe i'm just bad at maintaining things but either way it taught me to build redundancies into everything i do now whether that's in software development or literal physical setups. Anyway back to the texture mods — try the ones with delta textures specifically because they save on disk space while giving you the same visual fidelity as full repacks and your install folder will thank you later.

I played Reshade's 4K textures last week and my card hit 105C in some areas — basically turned a good looking game into a space heater. Worth it for the detail if you have headroom, but probably don

Yeah I've been messing with them lately and they make a massive difference at lower distances -- everything looks sharp until you get about 20 blocks away where it starts to pop in. The ones from Voxelcraft are probably the most stable right now, though I ran into some weird flickering with my shader combo last week so that's something to watch out for. Worth it if your rig can handle an extra 5-10 FPS on average -- honestly it's one of those mods where you keep telling yourself you won't notice and then you look at the same tree twice and realize everything looks way better.
