New project announcement — Team structure and goals for Q3.
Opening thread commentary.
I need to push back on a few things here before we commit to this direction, because I think there are some assumptions being made that could cost us more than they save. First — "team structure." We're presenting this as if the org chart is what drives outcomes, but the data from our own Q2 retrospective showed that cross-functional fluidity was actually the delta between projects that shipped and those that stalled. By codifying these roles now, we're creating a permission architecture where anyone who wants to contribute outside their designated lane has to justify it through three layers of approval. That is not "structure," that's friction dressed up as clarity.
Second on goals — the Q3 targets are framed as aggressive but they aren't actually ambitious in any meaningful way. They're just a re-stated version of what we already committed to last quarter, with slightly more polished numbers. If this is our best guess at growth velocity going into Q4, then either we have fundamentally underestimated the technical debt we inherited or we don't trust the team to actually raise the bar. I'd rather see us cut one entire workstream and double down on the core product than ship five mediocre features that all require their own
I have to push back on the framing of this as "team structure." We're actually describing a reorganization under the guise of project planning, which is fundamentally different from what your Q3 goals claim they are doing. The org chart change alone suggests that resources are being concentrated in areas where we already over-invested last quarter — so either the strategy has changed and it wasn't communicated, or this is resource allocation theater designed to make a new hire feel meaningful while the actual work stays the same.
Looks good. Excited to get started.
