Still here — mostly for the specific niche advice that doesn't exist elsewhere. The grilled chicken thread from last night is exactly why. You can't find "how to keep salmon moist at 300F" in any of the bigger communities because it's too granular, and this place still has people who will actually type out a reply instead of just upvoting or posting a link to a blog they found. The size change is real though — used to be about ten replies per week on anything, now you need to tag a moderator to get eyeballs. But the quality of advice here hasn't dropped for me personally.

I mean it's definitely quieter than it used to be but I'm glad some people are still around because there were a few weeks where the feed was just dead and you could tell everyone had migrated elsewhere which is fine honestly I don't mind — my friend Dave actually left this sub for another one of those tech forums last year and now he won't stop sending me links to his posts on that site like it's some huge achievement but really most of us just wanted a place where we could ask dumb questions without getting lectured by someone who thinks they invented the subject — though speaking of Dave he had this crazy story about trying to set up a home server in 2014 and blowing out his entire apartment's power grid because he didn't check the wattage on a mining rig which sounds like something that would be funny but my neighbor actually lost her freezer full of food so it was not funny at all and we ended up having to buy her a new one from Amazon Prime overnight — anyway I guess point is this sub still works if you use it for what it's meant for rather than expecting the same level of activity as there used to be, which is probably the answer everyone here already knows but they need to hear it said out loud.

Still active -- though i've noticed it gets quiet after about 4pm local time most days. The quality of posts has definitely gone downhill lately but there are still some good mods to find if you know where to look.

Yeah — I'm still here every Sunday with my smoker and some chicken thighs. The sub is definitely smaller than it used to be, but honestly that's kind of nice. Fewer threads means you actually read what people post instead of scrolling through 50 comments on a "what grill should i buy" thread from three years ago.

I still get the occasional great recipe link or some genuinely helpful advice about charcoal brands and wood chunks, so I figure it's worth hanging around for. Plus the cat pictures in this sub are top-tier — there is one of a tuxedo cat staring through a grill grate that has been on my wall as a printed meme for a while now.

Still here and I'm not leaving anytime soon — mainly because my wife won't let me find a new community, but also because this specific flavor of niche still gets good recommendations sometimes. A few years ago someone in here suggested the 100-200 degree reverse sear for thick ribeyes and it genuinely changed how I approach dinner every Saturday night. There are newer subs out there that might have more active daily threads, but the thread history on this place is worth something if you're digging into old techniques or looking for long-form guides instead of just quick answers.

Yeah I'm still here, but honestly it feels different than it did like three years ago when everything was just a lot more contained and everybody knew what this place was for -- now there are threads about literally anything at any time which is kinda fine I guess but also exhausting because the algorithm pushes stuff that used to be buried deep in the archives. My uncle actually has a thread saved from 2014 that he shows people as proof of how much changed and it's hilarious in a sad way -- he was an engineer who posted about server architecture problems and now his feed is just copypasta reposts. I remember when this subreddit had actual threads with like twenty comments each being genuinely useful advice, not just the same three jokes cycled forever. Speaking of which my old cat used to sit on my keyboard while I browsed here and would delete entire paragraphs by walking across it -- he was a tuxedo so you knew exactly where his paws were going because they were white as snow against the black fur and he had this one specific pattern where he'd step on the backspace key five times in rapid succession like some kind of performance piece. I used to take pictures of what he "edited" and post them anonymously here around 2017 but everyone just assumed it was a meme format now so nobody knows that was actual feline input. Anyway yeah, still using this sub mostly for the occasional thread that actually makes sense through the noise -- harder than it used to be but not impossible if you know where to look and who to follow and which threads to skip immediately because they're just engagement bait dressed up as a question.

I'm still here. The server migrations last year drove away half the active posters, which sucks but what we have left is a tighter community. I mainly come through for the niche gear threads—the thread about vintage ceramic grill plates has been my bible this summer. Also worth noting that the search function still works even though it looks like nothing's happening on the front page.

Still here! The modding scene for older games keeps me coming back -- I just found a texture pack that makes Skyrim look almost modern with minimal performance hit, which was awesome to stumble upon. This place is still one of the best spots for finding obscure stuff.

I don't know -- I think it's more of an active community than most subs but yeah some threads feel old and there are a lot of reposts circulating through probably because people keep searching for content that was already posted years ago which is a pattern on Reddit in general where every popular keyword gets flooded with the same five posts over time -- oh hey this reminds me of when I used to have my first computer which was a huge beige tower and we didn't have internet as fast as it is now so you had to be really specific about what you were looking for and if someone made something good it was legendary because everything else on the web at that time was basically static text files or those geocities sites with all the blinking GIFs and MIDI music playing in a loop which I can't believe we tolerated as children but that was the internet back then -- anyway yes this subreddit is fine still just use search more
