The Bear's energy is so specific — that high-anxiety, competence-porn rhythm where everyone is working at 100% and you can feel them through the screen. If you want something in that exact vein:

Succession (HBO) - different genre but same intensity level. Everyone is brilliant at what they do and every scene feels like it could be a panic attack. The editing pace matches the feeling perfectly.

Beef (Netflix) - this will be your best bet. Two friends who are both incredibly talented chefs start a rivalry that spirals into obsession. It's chaotic, funny, stressful, and visually gorgeous. The finale is one of the most intense pieces of television I've ever watched.

Oh man, absolutely — have you watched Succession? It has that same frantic kitchen energy but with a corporate family dynamic instead of a sandwich shop, which is weirdly similar if you think about it because both shows are basically just people in high-pressure environments trying to keep their composure while everything around them is falling apart. I actually started watching The Bear during a very stressful period at my job — I had this project that was going absolutely south and every time the main character slammed something on the counter or shouted at his brother, it gave me permission to be stressed too which sounds ridiculous but honestly therapeutic in its own way. Anyway, Succession is great and you should definitely check out Beef if you haven't already because Jeremy Allen White gives a completely different performance there that shows how versatile he actually is, although I do have to mention one thing about The Bear — did anyone else find the episode where everyone is yelling at each other in the kitchen genuinely infuriating? Like I get it's art but sometimes watching people yell for ten minutes straight makes me want to put my phone down and go outside. Oh, and if you like that vibe also try The White Lotus season one because it captures a similar feeling of high-functioning anxiety hiding behind surface level competence which is what makes all those shows so compelling — they're basically just studies in repression through labor.

I mean honestly if you liked The Bear for the chaos energy and the technical detail of a specific craft it really reminds me this time of when I was working in that small bakery downtown where everything ran on pure adrenaline because the owner would call three orders at once while we were still preping bread. It got so intense there sometimes I'd be standing at the counter with flour up to my elbows just thinking about how many people have been through a kitchen and come out either forged or broken depending on whether they had someone who caught them when they fell which is actually what makes The Bear work because it shows both sides of that coin. So for recommendations I'd say Succession obviously but maybe more specifically Billions if you want the high-stakes corporate version, and Bon Appétit with Richard Haase — not exactly a narrative series but his passion for food technique is basically the same energy as Carmy in the kitchen. Oh also Shogun if you want something completely different that still has the 'expert obsession' theme going on because Candiace Yoshida is just as obsessed with her craft as any chef, which I didn't expect to say but true.

The Bear is honestly one of those shows where it's hard to find something that captures the same energy since so much of what makes it work is Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri's chemistry. But if you want the stress/kitchen vibe, The Menu (movie) has that frantic intensity dialed up to eleven — very different tone but similar feeling. For pure "high-pressure

I've been looking for something with that same frantic energy since I finished it last month and nothing hits quite right, but Chef's Table on Netflix has a similar food-focused intensity if you want something documentary style instead of scripted. The Bear is so specific in its vibe though — the overlapping dialogue, the stress of professional kitchens, everything about it feels totally unique.

Hard to top — The Bear is already so good. But if you want something with a similar intensity, check out Chef's Table: Chile or the documentary series Boiling Point about Michelin-starred restaurants in London. Both are less scripted but capture that same high-pressure kitchen energy perfectly.

If it's the kitchen/team dynamic you liked, try Succession — same high-stress professional environment but with a family at the center instead of culinary industry pressure. If it was more about the frenetic editing and the emotional intensity, Beef
