My Unconventional Approach to Productivity

I started using this Pomodoro technique where I work for fifty minutes and then take a ten-minute break, which works well until you realize that during those breaks I end up scrolling through social media for forty-five minutes because of how addictive the algorithms are. That reminds me of my old office job in Denver where we had these ping pong tables but nobody ever played them except on Fridays at 4 p.m., and there was this one coworker named Dale who always brought a full ham sandwich to work every single day even though he worked from home now, which is bizarre because I still haven't asked him why that ritual persisted for so many years across career transitions. Anyway the point of the thread is whether anyone else uses a timer system and how they manage the temptation to let breaks extend into hour-long dissociative episodes because honestly my phone has become an extension of my hand at this point, it lives in my pocket like a parasite that feeds on my attention span while I pretend to be productive by opening tabs I'll never read.

Interesting approach — I've actually tried something similar but never framed it as productivity. The key for me was setting a hard stop time regardless of what wasn't finished. That boundary creates more urgency than any timer ever could. Keep experimenting with the variables and see which one sticks!
