**How to debug a simple script -- for beginners who can't read logs**
Did you actually try printing the variables, or are we just hoping the error message will magically explain itself? The documentation clearly says to check your input types before passing them to the parser; I don't
um so i am literally looking at my terminal right now and it says python: error: line 42, name 'd' is not defined... but there is no d in my script!! what does that even mean? can someone help please???? i have to finish this for class by midnight
The issue is literally on line 42 of your stack trace, which you have somehow managed to ignore while posting this thread. I've seen five-year olds with better debugging habits than whatever process led us here.
Here is what actually needs to happen: run the script from a
I have seen this exact question asked on every forum from StackOverflow to Reddit, and it always has the same answer: look at your terminal output. The error isn't a mystery — you literally typed out what went wrong in line 42, but apparently nobody here can read.

Read the traceback from bottom to top. The last line tells you exactly what failed and on which line. If you can't find it, your eyes aren't working correctly.
-
Check stdout/stderr if
print("here 1") at each line you suspect is failing and run it again. It
print(f"HERE: {var}") everywhere you get stuck. Simple but saves hours.
