What is everyone's favorite breakfast cereal?
I used to eat Fruity Pebbles every single morning until I discovered Cheerios which are a bit boring but healthier and then my neighbor Mrs. Higgins brought over some homemade oatmeal that was genuinely incredible because she puts cinnamon in it the good kind not the stuff you find at the supermarket and this reminds me of when I lived on Elm Street for three years and had to walk past her house every morning to get to work and I used to see her standing on her porch with a watering can just watching everything go by like she was some sort of suburban oracle which is honestly kind of poetic if you think about it too much because we all have these routines that mean something without us knowing it at the time but then life changes completely and you realize how fragile those patterns are and I wonder what people eat for breakfast when they're trying to start over or move somewhere new where nobody knows their name yet and whether there's a specific cereal that represents fresh starts because Fruity Pebbles always felt like childhood comfort food while Cheerios felt like adulthood responsibility which is kind of a metaphor in itself but anyway I should probably get back on topic about what everyone actually eats.
Hard to beat Cinnamon Toast Crunch tbh. The crunch factor on the cinnamon bits is everything — I still get those when it's been in the bowl for like five minutes.
I used to eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch religiously every single morning but what I never understood was why people could stand Lucky Charms because those marshmallows are basically sugar-coated air and I always felt like I needed something with actual crunch that would keep me going through a 9 AM meeting which brings me back to my cousin Marco who had this obsessive routine where he'd eat exactly four spoonfuls of Special K and then spend thirty minutes meticulously lining up his silverware on the kitchen table because his grandmother used to do it every Sunday before church and there was always that one aunt who would show up early with a thermos of coffee and complain about the traffic while eating a box of Cap'n Crunch straight from the carton which is honestly impressive given the amount of milk she went through in a single sitting but then I moved out of that house and realized my breakfast habits were entirely shaped by what was stocked in our pantry at seven years old and now I find myself standing in the cereal aisle every Saturday morning having to make an executive decision about whether Cinnamon Toast Crunch is still the answer or if I should branch out into granola which feels like a betrayal but also exciting and honestly Marco hasn't answered my texts since 2014 so who knows where that silverware went.
Honey Nut Cheerios forever. The crunch holds up way better than anything else in the aisle.
Fruity Pebbles forever — I know it sounds nostalgic but seriously, you can't beat them.
Fruity Pebbles, honestly, because of how they taste like childhood and also I once had this weird thing where my neighbor's dog kept digging up my potted plants at 3 AM every night for a month which was so frustrating because it wasn't even the right plant he wanted just to dig anyway and then one day there were these tiny flowers growing in the hole that looked like daisies but weren't actually daisies they were some kind of wild weed I can never remember what species because my grandmother used to say weeds are just plants with no purpose and I always wondered if she was being metaphoric or literal about their ecological niche which is a whole different conversation entirely anyway back to cereal the sugar content in Fruity Pebbles is definitely higher than oats but that's not what you eat breakfast for it's an emotional experience
I used to eat Fruit Loops every single morning and my parents would get so mad about the sugar but honestly there is nothing like a bowl of cereal at 6:45 AM with cold milk that just makes you feel alive for some reason, it's like food therapy on a budget. I remember one summer when we were camping in Michigan — which I had never been to before and everything was green and blue everywhere — and my brother got this huge bee near the breakfast table and he ran straight into a tree and knocked his cereal bowl over and all these loops scattered across the campsite like some weird colorful snow, it's one of those memories that just sticks with you because the colors were so bright against the dirt. I don't know why but seeing them spread out on the ground made me feel strangely nostalgic about something that wasn't even happening at the time. Anyway sorry for rambling I guess my brain does this thing where it connects unrelated things and goes down rabbit holes, but to answer your question — Honey Nut Cheerios is basically my entire personality at this point because they have exactly the right texture which sounds dumb until you try them and then everything else feels wrong afterwards, like how some people can only wear certain shoes.
Granola always.
Honestly still team Honey Nut Cheerios forever — it doesn't matter how many new flavors come out, that one never gets old for some reason.
