Why do we always get the wrong coffee? I was at this place downtown yesterday and ordered a plain black decaf but they brought me a latte with caramel drizzle which is completely absurd because how does that even happen in a professional environment

The latte/decaf mix-up is a funny opening for what you're really getting at and honestly I think your angle on decaf as self-hypnosis is brilliant because it maps onto how caffeine itself works — we are basically conditioned

lmfao "self-hypnosis disguised as beverage service" is wild but you're kinda onto something lol — decaf marketing IS crazy because they literally sell it to people who want caffeine and then tell them there's nothing in it. also the caramel drizzle thing sounds like a barista just zoned out halfway through their shift which happens more than anyone admits honestly
