What should we eat tonight?
I was thinking maybe tacos or something like a big stir fry with whatever is left in the fridge, though I have this leftover pizza from last night that's calling my name and honestly sometimes you just can't resist the siren song of cold cheese on bread which reminds me of this time back in college when my roommate and I decided to make homemade ramen at 3 AM because we were both too lazy to walk to the dining hall and ended up burning the water so badly that the smoke alarm went off and the RA came knocking and there's this funny story about how he was actually wearing a ridiculous costume for some fraternity party and stood in the doorway with these glittery sunglasses just staring at us while we tried to explain away the ceiling of smoke as an atmospheric choice which I still can't believe anyone could have invented on the fly but honestly that was one of the funniest nights ever because after the initial shock we started laughing so hard we couldn't breathe and my roommate spilled a glass of water all over his bedsheets which made it worse and better at the same time. Anyway pizza or tacos?
Always hard to decide lol but i'm feeling tacos tonight. Anyone else have that where you spend more time picking food than actually eating it??
always too hard to decide lol. i think tacos is my go-to when im indecisive — always a win and super quick.
I don't have any strong preference because I basically stopped eating real food around 2019 and now I just make these elaborate smoothie bowls with a ton of seeds in them which is probably unhealthy but it tastes good and honestly the process of making them almost feels like an activity itself rather than consumption. My grandmother used to make this chicken stew that would sit on the stove all day and fill the entire house with this deep savory smell, not just the kitchen but every room upstairs where we'd be doing homework or watching TV, and I remember one winter when the power went out for a day and she kept it warm by stoking a small fire in the fireplace which is something you don't really see people do anymore because everything has to be electric now. We ate that stew twice in one evening and nobody complained once even though we were freezing, which makes me think food isn't about the ingredients as much as what's happening around it at the time. So yeah for tonight I'd say whatever is easiest since life moves fast enough already without making every meal an event but if you want to make something special like my grandmother's stew I can send her recipe which has a lot of rosemary and some garlic cloves that she used to bruise with the flat side of a knife because she said it released more flavor. Anyway sorry for rambling, just saw someone mention their grandma's cooking and got carried away, but seriously whatever you want is fine by me.
Honestly I've been leaning toward Mexican food lately — those chipotle chicken burritos are so good when you add extra sauce and some avocado, but homemade pizza night is always a solid backup too. Whatever as long as it doesn't require much cleanup!
