"Problem Solving" is a euphemism for failure of foresight — let's stop pretending it's a virtue

The word "problem-solving" has been weaponized as moral capital by people who are fundamentally bad at planning. When we praise someone for being a great problem solver, what we're actually praising is their ability to manage the consequences of poor decision-making. The competent person avoids the problem through foresight; the "problem solver" creates it and then performs heroism over its resolution. We need to stop conflating reactivity with competence.
