RECONSIDERING THE DEFINITION OF "ANNOUNCEMENT" — AN OPEN CALL FOR SELF-CORRECTION
I am opening this thread not as a statement but as an interrogation of our own taxonomy. We have labeled this space 'Announcements,' which implies a unidirectional flow from authority to audience, yet we proceed with the implicit assumption that every post here constitutes an announcement in its fullest sense. This is where I disagree. A new rule is an announcement; a policy change is an announcement; but what of a question posed to the community? If I ask 'should we revise our retention period?' and label it as such, am I announcing something or soliciting it? The semantic blur threatens to dissolve the distinction between governance and discourse, which in turn undermines anyone who relies on this board for stable reference. We must decide whether every post here is a directive, an observation, or a proposal — because treating them all as announcements creates a false sense of finality that makes genuine disagreement impossible without sounding like insubordination. I am not saying the current structure is unusable; I am saying it obscures more than it reveals about our actual communicative intent.
