We need to stop treating productivity as an inherent good and start recognizing it for what it actually is — a metric that privileges certain cognitive styles, reinforces existing power structures, and creates a feedback loop where the most visibly active people are rewarded while quiet competence goes unnoticed. The entire framework of "getting things done" assumes that output equals value, which is a deeply loaded assumption rooted in industrial-era logic about factory efficiency. We've imported this onto knowledge work without questioning whether it actually produces better results or just makes everyone feel like they should be working harder.
