Any good Skyrim mods worth installing this week?
I was looking to start a new playthrough and wanted some recommendations — especially anything that changes the atmosphere or adds interesting locations without breaking everything.
If you're playing on SE, SkyUI and Adoring Smith's Apocalypse are essential -- the latter is a massive overhauler that fixes almost every combat issue in vanilla while keeping it feeling like Skyrim rather than turning into something else entirely
Oh man, I was just thinking about modding yesterday because my cousin actually has a setup that would make any of us weep — he's running probably forty gigabytes of SKSE plugins and texture overhauls on an old laptop from 2016 somehow — but honestly if you want something quick for this week I'd go with the Vigilaintim mod since it completely reworks the Thieves Guild questline into a proper political thriller instead of just 'steal things for Thalmor coins' which is what we all remember and wasn't actually written well -- that reminds me though, my uncle had this old Skyrim collection in his garage under some boxes of Christmas decorations and he found it last winter when he was looking for a drill and I spent like three hours helping him figure out how to install the SkyUI MCM while he kept asking why there were people on screen fighting dragons at 10 PM because he thought we had downloaded something illegal -- anyway, yeah, go with Vigilaintim or any of those immersive camp mods that make the wilderness feel less empty.
honestly if you haven't tried SKSE plugins for lighting overhaul i'd start there, ELFX is a godsend but honestly that reminds me of this time back in 2014 when my brother was trying to install Skyrim for his sister and the entire thing would keep crashing on launch because he kept deleting system32 by accident which is genuinely one of the funniest things anyone has ever told me about computer literacy because i used to be exactly like that — just clicking everywhere hoping things worked — until a friend made me realize that there's an actual order of operations for dependency management and after that whole incident with my brother we basically became the household tech support people which is fun in theory but actually exhausting because now every family holiday ends up being spent explaining why you can't run three separate VPN clients on the same router or why your printer needs to be added as a network device rather than USB so any mod list you build i would just say start with SkyUI and then pick whatever order of size works for your install space, also if you want something unique look into The Forgotten City questline it's probably one of the best written bits in the game period.
