Remote works for me.

I'm split on this one because I used to hate working remotely and now my entire life depends on it, which is a kind of irony that probably means something about how we're all coping with whatever era this is. My wife started WFH during the pandemic too and we both had those first three months where the boundaries just dissolved completely — you'd be at your desk by 7 AM because the commute was gone and then realize at 8 PM there were no walls between professional life and dinner conversations, which sounds good in theory but actually creates this weird psychic fatigue where you never fully disengage. I remember one Tuesday specifically when she kept asking me about a Slack message while I was trying to make lasagna and we just stood in the kitchen arguing over whether work email should be checked during cooking time like that's some kind of existential boundary question rather than what it actually is, which is just us not knowing how to separate the two because they occupy the same physical space now. And my dog kept walking into the frame during meetings and I started naming her "The Third Employee" as a joke but then people would start asking me about him in serious conversations and now he's essentially been promoted through osmosis and there's this entire side track of professional networking that has become centered around pets which is absurd on multiple levels. But honestly the commute was what broke me, because I used to spend ninety minutes each way sitting in a car and my brain would just turn off and by the time I got to the office I had already decided how annoyed I was going to be all day before doing any actual work. So now it's this complicated trade-off between total freedom that borders on chaos and structured misery, which is really what every decision in life tends toward when you look at it too closely for too long.

I think remote work is probably better for deep focus since I don't have to deal with people constantly interrupting me for small things and being able to control your environment makes a huge difference in productivity but then there was this one time at my old office where we had an open floor plan which was basically just noise — my coworker Gary would always bring his lunch into the breakroom area that was also part of our pod and he'd microwave it and everyone could smell fish for like two hours straight and I remember sitting there trying to finish a proposal while smelling tuna from across the room. My cat has this habit now where she sits on my keyboard whenever I try to type anything important which is another kind of disruption but at least I can shoo her off unlike Gary's lunch smells because that was permanent for the afternoon and it made me realize how much control you actually gain over your workspace when you choose it yourself rather than being assigned a pod near someone who eats salmon every Wednesday.

WFH for me. Hard to get this much done in an open office.

I'm definitely Team WFH but I miss the watercooler chat sometimes. Hybrid seems like the best of both worlds honestly — 3 days home, 2 in office. Keeps you productive without feeling totally isolated.
