Anyone tried that new cafe on Main Street? It looked promising but I haven't made it
Opening thread commentary.
Been there twice this week! The coffee is solid, though their breakfast menu is a bit limited compared to what you'd expect from those prices. Definitely worth it for the atmosphere if you need a change of scenery though — really nice lighting and they actually have outlets at every table which is rare lately
Went last weekend — definitely worth checking out. The coffee is great.
Oh man, me neither. Saw them setting up last week and the interior looks amazing from the window — those exposed brick walls are a nice touch. Going to try it this weekend if I can convince myself to get out of my own house lol
I actually stopped there last week for a quick coffee before heading into work and honestly was underwhelmed, which is kind of annoying because I'd built this place up in my head after seeing them on TikTok about four times — the lighting looked incredible, like very warm window light with those hanging plants that look almost too perfect to be real. The barista was nice though, just slow, which might be a problem if you have an actual schedule but I didn't mind since it was Tuesday morning and there were only three people in line. That kind of reminds me of when my sister opened her small art gallery back in 2014 because she couldn't stand the corporate environment at the museum where she worked, which is what got us into that apartment building on Elm Street with the bad radiator situation but we lived there for four years and I don't think anything was worse than this cafe. She painted an entire wall of murals in her living room while we were trying to figure out how to insulate the windows on a budget — remember when you bought those heavy velvet curtains from IKEA and they just smelled like chemicals for two weeks? We hung them up anyway because I had that fever at work and needed whatever could block out sound. Anyway, yeah the cafe is okay but maybe not worth the hype if you're in a rush.
Not yet, but it looks good.
I walked past it yesterday and the signage was actually really cool — very minimalist, gold foil lettering on navy blue which is a look I'm obsessed with lately because my entire apartment started trending toward that palette after I watched an interior design channel where they were talking about high-contrast color theory in small spaces. My sister has this same obsession for some reason and we used to spend hours debating whether cobalt or midnight was the 'truer' navy, which is ridiculous of us but you know how families do things -- then she moved away and I realized a lot of those debates were basically just our way of staying connected from a distance. Anyway, that cafe looked promising because they had an outdoor seating area with these huge green ferns, which is always the tell for good coffee since anyone who's ever owned a fern knows how much maintenance it requires to keep them alive long enough to be decorative. I haven't been yet but I plan on going this Saturday with my book club because we need a new spot and everyone has been complaining about our usual place getting too loud, which is understandable -- the acoustics in there are terrible because they put exposed brick walls everywhere without any sound dampening materials so you can hear everything from every table at once.
Oh yeah, I actually went there last week and it was... interesting. The coffee is decent, definitely a solid flat white if you're into that kind of thing, but what really caught my eye wasn't the menu at all which is hilarious because that's what everyone always talks about with these new spots — no, it was this tiny ceramic bowl on their back shelf. I don't know why but for some reason seeing a handmade piece like that immediately reminded me of when I went to a pottery class in college and ended up breaking the wheel halfway through which is one of those memories that just kind of lives under the surface until something triggers it and then you can't stop thinking about your instructor Mr. Henderson who told everyone I had "the hands of a builder" despite the fact that everything I made looked like a collapsed muffin — which actually isn't bad because it was a creative problem solving moment at its core — but anyway sorry for derailing, to answer your question directly yeah go there on a Tuesday afternoon if you can because by Friday they have like three hours of wait time and the vibe is just different.
Tried it last week, definitely worth going for.
I actually stopped in last Tuesday around 4:15 and had a great experience, though honestly that thread reminds me of this time about eight years ago when I was living in Providence and there was this tiny hole-in-the-wall donut shop on Westminster Street that nobody seemed to know about. They only opened until noon which is ridiculous for a business model but their coffee was genuinely excellent and they had these cardamom buns that were life-changing. My sister drove out all the way from Boston every Saturday morning just because she'd heard rumors through her coworkers, and I used to drive with her at like 5:30 AM on Saturdays which is probably not healthy for anyone involved but there was something spiritual about it you know? The ritual of leaving before sunrise specifically. That actually brings up an interesting point about the cafe on Main Street because if they have those outdoor windows that face east, the morning light must be spectacular at around 6:45 AM and that's when I usually drink my coffee but I find myself getting anxious thinking about traffic during rush hour which is a completely unrelated concern. The menu looked concise too which is always a good sign because overcomplicated menus are almost always a red flag for mediocrity, though some places get away with it through sheer volume of customers. Anyway the answer to your question is yes they're worth the stop but maybe go around 10:30 or something and avoid the lunch rush.
