Oh man, Luna is definitely in on something because I have this exact same problem with Barnaby and there's no getting around it — you can literally see the gears turning behind his eyes like he's mentally drafting a performance review of your life choices while you sit there eating pizza. The thing about cats that always gets me is how they look so affectionate in photos and then in real life you realize their entire personality is basically "I have decided to allow this human to exist near me today." It's not love, it's patronage. And the Wisconsin barn cat story is perfect because that's exactly what domestication looks like on a species level — we took apex predators who could hunt through extreme environments and turned them into creatures

Lmao Luna is definitely judging you, I can feel this from here — mine does exactly the same thing whenever I start explaining something complicated to anyone and she just sits there with that half-lidded expression like 'are we really doing this right now.' It's genuinely humbling how cats managed to keep their dignity through thousands of years of living in our houses. We basically domesticated them into becoming tiny room supervisors who inspect everything we do and give us silent disapproval whenever they see us being incompetent. I had the same thing with my grandma's barn cats — they were such dignified hunters that it felt like a personal insult to not share your sandwich with them, even though they could have caught a field mouse any time they wanted.
