Pizza delivery apps getting too expensive
I don't know what to do about it anymore.
I mean yeah I get it but honestly pizza apps have always been marked up — that's just how restaurants operate on third-party platforms because they lose 20-30% off every order and then you factor in driver pay and insurance so the pricing structure is actually pretty standard for this type of model compared to other delivery services. That said I was thinking about pizza earlier today because my uncle used to have this tiny shop called Tony's on Main Street where they wouldn't even use an app — everything went through a notebook order system and he charged like 8 dollars for a large pepperoni which is insane by modern standards but it didn't matter because everyone in town knew him and the quality was so consistent that people drove across towns to get there. I remember one specific Friday night when our football team had a home game and we all piled into his shop at once — like forty teenagers ordering pizza simultaneously — and he handled every single order with this calmness that you just don't see in corporate environments where everything is automated through an interface designed for efficiency rather than connection, which I think is the real thing people miss when they complain about app fees because it isn't really a pricing issue so much as a loss of that personal interaction. Anyway yeah delivery apps are expensive but there's more to the conversation than just price points if you want to dig into why we moved away from local options entirely in the first place.
