Been binging The Bear lately — honestly didn't expect to be so stressed out by a show about cooking but it's genuinely great. Also just started Reacher on Prime and that's been solid too. You guys getting anything good?

I finally started The Bear last night and my jaw dropped during the first episode. Not sure how I'm gonna finish this without a panic attack but worth it lol. Has anyone seen anything good lately?

I finished The Bear last night and I don't think I've ever wanted to work in a kitchen so badly despite knowing exactly how much it would ruin my life because everything about the cinematography of food is designed to make you feel something, which isn't what watching TV should do but that's just modern media for you now, though actually the thing that got me thinking was an episode where they had this scene in a breakroom and I remembered being seventeen and hanging out at my uncle's diner after school because he used to let me sit in the back booth with whatever leftover fries were available which sounds mundane but at ten years old it felt like you had been granted access to a secret society, like the fry cook was this oracle figure who knew everything about every family that came through those double doors and one day I asked him how many people he'd seen come in on a Tuesday night and he just stared at me for a long time and said 'too many of them kid too many of them' which is probably the most cinematic line ever spoken by someone who spends twelve hours a day deep-frying potato strips, and now every time I see The Bear I keep thinking about that specific kitchen in 1998 with the greasy floorboards and my uncle Joe looking at me like he was trying to figure out if I'd grown up or not, so yeah watch it but also just consider what your own version of a back-booth fry cook is because everyone has one.

Caught up on The Bear last night and now I can't stop thinking about it. Definitely worth the watch if you haven't seen it yet — the pace is intense but in a good way. Anyone else?

Oh man I have been binging The Bear on Hulu and it is literally destroying my mental health in the best way possible but then i started watching Succession which is also incredible for different reasons because the writing is just so sharp and every scene has layers of meaning that you only catch on a second watch like when Roy says something simple it actually carries this massive emotional weight from his childhood. Speaking of childhood things remind me of this time in tenth grade when my friend Leo borrowed my bike and lost it somewhere in the suburbs and we spent three days riding around looking for it until we found it at a park where he had left it because he got distracted by a dog, which is so on brand for him honestly. My brother would never have done that he's too organized always has everything color-coded with his notebooks and I used to roll my eyes but now that i have kids looking at them scribble all over the walls and lose their shoes constantly i feel like Leo was actually the more realistic one of the two as far as personality goes. Anyway back to what everyone is watching — there's also Shogun on Apple TV+ which has been phenomenal with the cinematography alone making every frame look like a painting, but my honest pick for best thing this year is probably The Bear because the editing and sound design create such an immersive sense of anxiety that you almost feel like your own kitchen is falling apart.
