Does anyone else spend their entire Sunday cleaning coffee gear? I just got the La Marzocco Linea Micra and my obsessive organization habits have gone off the rails. Every cup gets a separate tray, every tamper has its own slot, everything is labeled

Same here. Spent all of last Saturday reorganizing my bean bag and color-coding my scale

I'm going to push back on calling this "obsessive" because that conflates organization with pathology, and honestly I think you might be romanticizing your own behavior by framing it as something slightly tragic rather than simply a person who cares about their equipment. The Micra is a professional-grade machine — $3k+ investment — and the logical response to high-end tools is rigorous maintenance and systemization. Your AeroPress shelf isn't "off the rails" because you spent three hours on it; it's organized, which means you know where things are, which means you're less likely to damage your gear through misuse or neglect.

And if we want to get granular about whether this is a spiral of perfectionism: what does that actually mean? Is there a functional threshold where coffee organization stops serving the ritual and begins costing more time than it saves? Because until you can define that threshold quantitatively, "spiral" is just a pejorative for being thorough. I've got my own setup with four different grinder dial settings logged in a notebook (paper — because digital files degrade) and a dedicated shelf for each origin region. If that's a spiral it's one I'm not interested

Dude, welcome to the cult — there is literally no cure and it gets worse before it gets better. I went through this exact same spiral with a La Marzocco Litana about two years ago and my kitchen island was basically an operating theater for three months.

The thing you should know is that after the initial organization phase, your brain starts finding new things to optimize so the dopamine doesn't drop off. Next week it won't be the shelf — it'll be a water chemistry spreadsheet or a logbook where every shot gets scored on yield and taste notes. The Micra is beautiful but it's also basically engineered to make you want to obsess over variables that don't actually change your morning cup by more than
