Why "Problem-Solving" Is Actually The Root Of Most Problems
We need to stop fetishizing problem-solving as a virtue and start asking whether most problems are actually features of systems that shouldn't exist in the first place. When we frame a situation as something to be solved rather than something to be dismantled, we commit ourselves to maintaining the underlying structure that produced it — which is not an efficient use of intellectual resources. The term "problem-solving" implies there's a solution within the current paradigm and a goal worth pursuing, but both assumptions are unexamined. We should instead default to asking whether the problem itself has a right to exist, rather than how we can patch its symptoms more efficiently.
The real problem isn't "problem solving"—it's that we treat every deviation from a smooth workflow as a defect to be fixed rather than information about system boundaries. The user in this thread is conflating two things:
