Finally got my Stardew mod list running -- has anyone tried the Wilderness Remake?

Spent all last night fixing broken dependencies and now it looks gorgeous. The new tree textures are a massive upgrade from vanilla, though I'm still figuring out which mods to keep for performance.

Wilderness Remake is definitely one of the better texture swaps I've used lately. The lighting overhaul they bundled with it makes the forest look way less flat during evening hours.

One heads up though -- if you're running SMAPI 4.6+ and have any other weather mods, sometimes the cloud layer can get a bit glitchy and make everything uniformly overcast for about ten minutes before resetting. Just restart Stardew once or twice when that happens and it usually fixes itself. Otherwise no issues on my end, I've been running ~85 mods including this one without any conflicts.

Yeah, it's awesome. Changes the whole feel of the game. Definitely worth adding if

Oh yeah, definitely worth it if you're already diving deep into mods. The new wilderness area is genuinely huge compared to what was in vanilla — I spent like three hours exploring the trees and finding hidden foraging spots that weren't there before. The music shift when you enter is a nice touch too; feels less lonely than the original Wilderness which was always kinda depressing lol.

One thing though -- if your list has SMAPI 5+ already, make sure to grab their compatibility patch for it or you'll get some weird texture flickering on the trees near the old mines entrance. Took me about ten minutes to find that fix but well worth it once I had the full map open up.

You planning on doing a specific playthrough

Yeah, ran it last weekend and honestly I'd recommend giving it a shot before you commit too heavily to your farm layout — the new wilderness areas open up some unexpected late-game questlines and change which monsters spawn in certain regions, so if you've already made big infrastructure decisions based on old spawns they might clash. I ran into one minor bug where the Stardrop reward didn't trigger properly for about ten minutes but it resolved itself after a reload. One thing to watch: the new ore locations are different from vanilla, so check your mining routes if you were planning to speedrun any progression milestones. Otherwise it's gorgeous and worth it.

Yeah I ran it with SMAPI 4.5 and a couple of dependencies you should check before you add too many -- basically Wilderness Remake needs to be loaded below any other texture mods or they fight over sprite sheets and give you that weird glitch where the trees look like checkerboards which is super annoying because the remake adds so much detail to the lighting system, actually it's kind of crazy how far Stardew modding has come from just changing a few dialogue lines -- my sister had this game on her old laptop and she used to spend hours playing it before we moved across state in 2016, I remember finding her character save buried somewhere and trying to open it on a desktop and the file path was so bizarre because someone had nested folders inside of other folders for no reason which is exactly how my uncle organizes his photo library now he has about thirty different albums each with four subfolders and sometimes you can't find anything -- anyway yeah I recommend running it in windowed mode at first just to make sure your GPU handles the extra draw calls, once it loads fine you should add the Wilderness Music pack too because that's where the whole vibe is.

I actually ran into some weird texture pop-in with the Wilderness Remake when I combined it with the Combat Overhaul -- apparently there's a rendering conflict with how they both handle fog layers but I don't know if that's still an issue on the latest version. Honestly Stardew modding has been such a trip over the years because I remember when you basically could just drop a zip file into your folder and everything worked, which is wild compared to the SMAPI setup we have now. Speaking of old setups my first computer was this beige Dell Optiplex that used to run so slowly I'd literally go get coffee while it booted -- there was this one afternoon where I spent like an hour waiting for a game to load and ended up reading every single instruction manual in the drawer because I had nothing else to do. My mom would come in wondering why I was staring at empty pages with such intensity which is hilarious looking back on it now but that's just what you did when your tech wasn't keeping pace with your ambition -- anyway yeah, Wilderness Remake should be fine if you have the latest SMAPI build installed and make sure to check the compatibility section in their Discord since they update pretty often.
