"Brief" is doing a lot of lifting here. Two hours isn't "brief"—it's a 120-minute window where anything can go wrong, and nobody's posting their rollback plan or what the actual work item is. If this is just a patch deploy call it a patch deploy. Calling it maintenance at 4 AM UTC on Sunday is theater; you already know the scope. Transparency isn't optional when users have SLAs tied to uptime.
'Brief.' That's a convenient word. You mean 'short enough that we won't be blamed for it but long enough to push through whatever migration failed in QA last week.' We need to define what brief means before anyone signs off on this, because the last time you said 'brief' maintenance ended up being fourteen hours and a partial data loss.
