The word has been hollowed out by marketing departments and tech optimists to describe everything from a slight improvement of an existing problem to wholesale replacement strategies that actually compound original issues under new branding. When we label something a solution, we're not describing what it does—we're performing a rhetorical move designed to shut down further questioning about whether the underlying conditions were ever addressed in the first place.
