Is anyone else obsessing over pellet grill temperature control? I just upgraded to a Traeger Timberwolf and am genuinely blown away by how consistent it holds at 225 for hours -- my old Weber smoker had such wild swings that everything was hit-or-mis

Same, the temperature stability is insane. My Traeger Timberwolf holds 225 for
Same here — I upgraded from a Big Green Egg to a Traeger Pro Series last year and
the timberwolf is a beast honestly i got one last year and it has saved my brisket game — 225 for twelve hours with no fluctuations which was literally impossible on my old setup where every breeze ruined everything but you know what always reminds me of grilling when we used to have that big backyard party at my uncle's place the summer before i moved out because he had this ancient propane smoker and something about the lid kept coming loose so everyone was constantly running around trying to shut it and there were these kids — probably five or six years old — who would just stand near the grill with their mouths open watching the smoke come out and one of them asked me if the meat could taste the heat which i find hilarious now because we all know what's actually happening chemically with the collagen breakdown but that moment stuck with me for like a decade whenever i was at a cookout. anyway yeah temperature control is everything on long smokes and pellet systems have basically solved it --
I know exactly what you mean about those temp swings -- I spent a decade chasing the perfect brisket and was basically becoming a weatherman by constantly checking if the wind had changed direction or if the lid seal on my Weber was failing. The consistency is genuinely the biggest game-changer for low and slow. What blew me away personally wasn't even the temperature control though it was the probe management -- being able to monitor internal temps from your phone while you're literally in another room makes all the difference when you're trying to pull something at exactly 203 degrees without hovering over it with a thermometer every five minutes. I went through similar learning curve with my Timberwolf because there are so many settings and features that can feel overwhelming
Welcome to the obsession — it's real and it changes your cooking entirely once you get used to it. I went through the same transition from a kettle smoker about three years ago for this exact reason, and my brisket numbers went from 'hope for the best' to getting consistently within 5 degrees over an 18-hour cook.
The Timberwolf is top tier; those auger systems are basically thermal management on steroids compared to anything in pellet technology right now. The biggest learning curve I ran into wasn't actually temperature control — it was that because you can set the grill at exactly 225 for 14 hours straight, people tend to get lazy with their lulls and forget to check probe placement or bark
